In order to be a successful poker player you need to think like a successful poker player, and not only in terms of the mathematics of the game and other such nuances.
Often, poker players looking to improve their skills will study strategy books on how to play certain hands and situations, yet they overlook one of the most important skills to improve – the mental side of the game.
Having a strong mental game can be the difference between being a winning or a losing player. Easily the best books on this subject are The Mental Game of Poker series by Jared Tendler and Barry Carter; they are worth their weight in gold.
With our Big Bluff celebrities only just learning about the game of poker, then discovering what it takes to have a good poker face, we treated them to another masterclass where they learned all about brain training.
We hired Dave Alred, a world-renowned elite performance coach who has worked with the likes of golf’s Luke Donald and rugby’s Jonny Wilkinson, to teach our celebrities about the importance of the mental side of poker. The video below shows our celebs being put through their paces.
Football star Adebayo Akinfenwa had other commitments that prevented him from attending the brain training masterclass, how costly will his absence prove to be to “The Beast?” Only time will tell.
